T-Systems plans to move 1,500 jobs outside Germany

Par admin - le 23 janvier 2012

T-Systems currently employs 48,000 people, about half of whom are based in Germany. According to an internal source, Deutsche Telekom’s IT services unit plans to cut 1,500 jobs in Germany in the coming 6 to 12 months. It is believed that an equivalent number of jobs will be created in countries where wages are lower and where T-Systems is developing its customer base, such as Brazil.

Harald Lindlar, a spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom, confirmed that the company may move jobs away from European countries, but declined to give specific numbers.

T-Systems’ efforts to cut costs are part of the Deutsche Telekom rationalisation strategy decided by Rene Obermann, the group’s CEO. In December 2011, the German operator had already announced plans to save €1bn by 2015 through the merger of its IT systems and services of its private customer business with that of its enterprise unit.
