Training path to develop skills in data science and artificial intelligence.

Facing rapid technological evolution, companies must continuously adapt and upgrade their teams' skills to remain competitive. In response, a leading telecommunications operator launched a large-scale initiative to train 600 employees in Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This project aimed to strengthen skills deemed strategic for three key roles: Data Engineer, Data Scientist, and Data Analyst. To achieve this, tailored learning paths were designed, incorporating best practices and top-tier educational content.
Sofrecom's training engineers supported the operator at every stage of this ambitious transformation.

The need: strengthening employee skills in Data & AI

The operator's requirement is to enhance its employees' skills in Data and Artificial Intelligence. The objective is to train 600 employees by 2024, focusing on three strategic roles: Data Engineer, Data Scientist, and Data Analyst. This initiative aims to ensure the company possesses the necessary skills to succeed in its Data-AI transformation, anticipate sector rapid changes, and promote innovation while improving overall organizational performance.

To reach this goal, the challenge is to design and implement suitable training programs, incorporating relevant content and effective pedagogical methods.

Sofrecom’s methodology for developing Data & AI Skills

Sofrecom has established a structured and dynamic step-by-step methodology to guarantee the success of this project:

Pathway design 

Collaborative workshops were conducted with industry experts to define the key skills for each prioritized role and identify appropriate training content, considering learner profiles and expectations. This step enabled the selection of the most suitable modules on the Coursera platform and the identification of additional modules to develop for completeness.

Communication & awareness

To ensure effective information flow, Sofrecom consultants proposed a communication plan highlighting the designed pathways and sharing their content with learning and development managers across divisions. This included interactions with HR, training departments, and managers to foster ownership of the programs and clarify prerequisites for each pathway.

Candidate selection process management

Consultants managed the learner selection process, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and pre-selecting candidates for HR review. This process aimed to prioritize the most suitable profiles.

 Learner support  & collective intelligence

Regular monitoring was implemented throughout the training pathways, from kickoff to completion. Sofrecom facilitated interactions among learners to promote peer learning. Subsequently, exchange sessions were organized to stimulate collective intelligence, allowing participants to share experiences and best practices in their daily roles.

Scheduling & program delivering

To meet the goal of training 600 employees within the client’s timeframe, a rigorous schedule for each pathway was developed with HR and managers’ support. This approach maintained a steady learning pace and maximized participant success rates, aiming to reach the target of 600 trained individuals at program end.

Benefits achieved from the Data-IA Skills development program

  • Two structured training pathways were deployed: one for Data Engineers and one for Data Scientists.
  • Each pathway was aligned with role-specific skill sets, allowing a progressive and personalized learning journey.
  • 71 employees completed the Data Engineer pathway, and 50 completed the Data Scientist pathway.
  • The program marked a significant advancement in Data and AI capabilities across the organization.
