Sofrecom, a subsidiary of the Orange Group, supports the acceleration of digital transformation in Morocco and will create 400 highly skilled jobs in Casablanca.
At a conference held today in Rabat on the challenges of offshoring and digitalization in Morocco, Sofrecom, a subsidiary of the Orange Group, announced the opening of a new International Service Center in Casablanca. This new entity will create 400 high value-added jobs dedicated to the digital transformation of public administrations, regions, and businesses by 2020. Celebrating 50 years of existence and 30 years of presence in Morocco, Sofrecom continues to expand its international investments in a country that is both attractive and committed to the development and promotion of new information technologies.
An international consulting and engineering firm specialized in telecommunications and information technologies, Sofrecom has been supporting the digital transformation of operators, governments, businesses, and territories around the world for 50 years.
“We are pleased to celebrate today in Rabat, with our subsidiary Sofrecom Services Maroc and in the presence of many dignitaries, half a century of history. I am even more pleased to announce, on this occasion, the opening of our second international service center in Morocco, located in Casablanca, which will help create 400 highly skilled jobs by 2020. Morocco, with whom Sofrecom has excellent collaborative relations, is attuned to the challenges of digital transformation and offers a remarkable pool of skilled talent. It remains an attractive location for the development of our activities,” said Jacques Moulin, CEO of Sofrecom, during the anniversary conference.
A new offshore service center in Casablanca
As part of its “Essentials2020” Strategic Plan, Orange has made Africa and the Middle East a top priority, and has entrusted Sofrecom with the creation of a second service center in Casablanca. This new center will focus on high value-added digital and IT activities, particularly for Orange Group subsidiaries around the world.
Located close to the Kingdom’s economic activities, the new Sofrecom Service Center in Casablanca will implement agile methods for developing IT and digital projects for Sofrecom’s French and Moroccan clients, accelerating their digital transformation programs: short development cycles, co-creation of solutions with clients, and a focus on user experience.
This entity will allow operators, administrations, and businesses to access IT solutions tailored to their needs and challenges in terms of competitiveness, innovation, and customer satisfaction. It will benefit from the digital innovation expertise of both Sofrecom and Orange.
With this new investment, Orange demonstrates its commitment to contributing to Morocco’s economic development through its subsidiaries Sofrecom and Meditel.
400 new highly skilled jobs
The new Sofrecom platform will create 400 highly skilled jobs in IT services and support infrastructure related to digital transformation: designers, developers, consultants, architects, and managers.
To fill these new technical and managerial positions, Sofrecom will rely on Morocco’s exceptional pool of young graduates from the Kingdom’s top universities and Grandes Écoles, with whom the company has long-standing partnerships. Positions will also be open to Moroccan digital experts living abroad, either for its operations in Morocco or for strategic projects in other countries where Sofrecom operates.
Sofrecom has formalized these two commitments in a “Letter of Intent” signed on May 19, 2016 with the Ministry in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs. This “Letter” also reflects the company’s desire to promote diversity and non-discrimination, in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, especially by encouraging women to pursue careers in technical digital fields and access leadership roles.
Two roundtables on offshoring and digital transformation in Morocco
During the speeches following these announcements, Moroccan government officials discussed the challenges of the country’s digital transformation. They emphasized that by helping position Morocco as a regional platform for IT services, Sofrecom is contributing to the success of the national strategic plan "Morocco Numeric 2020," and thereby to the country’s economic development.
Speakers included:
- Ms. Latifa ECHIHABI, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy
- Mr. Abdelouahed FIKRAT, Secretary General of the Ministry Delegate to the Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, in charge of the Environment
- Mr. Lahbib NADIR, Secretary General of the Ministry of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs
- Ms. Marie-Cécile TARDIEU, Head of the Regional Economic Service in Rabat, representing Mr. Jean-François Girault, Ambassador of France to Morocco
Two roundtables—one on digital transformation and the other on the development of offshore activities in Morocco—allowed for deeper discussions on the challenges of this transformation for the Kingdom, major ongoing projects (e-government, digitalization of regions and the emergence of Smart Cities, creation of an optimized offshore framework), and their impacts, especially on the relationship between the state and its citizens.
