Challenge
The IT Department of our client, a global telecommunications group, called upon Sofrecom's expertise to support its various subsidiaries located in the Africa & Middle East region in adopting and effectively using Business Intelligence (BI) solutions. This project has three objectives:
- Define and disseminate the group's BI recommendations,
- Establish a standard specification covering all performance indicators of a telecom operator (fixed, mobile, postpaid, prepaid),
- Assist the subsidiaries in their tendering process.
Methodology
Initially, our consultant conducted an assessment by conducting several interviews with the country's IT managers, department leaders within the group (Sales, Marketing, Finance...), and other BI domain stakeholders within the group (architects, experts). This assessment revealed several issues in the use of BI data: it was underutilized by business departments that did not trust it and preferred to use their own data sources. As a result, BI was not fulfilling its role as a source of aggregated and reliable reports for the subsidiaries' leaders. Our consultant then drafted a series of usage recommendations to ensure that BI becomes a reliable source of information serving the business.
Following this initial phase, our consultant proceeded to draft a standard specification that meets the needs of the various entities and covers all performance indicators.
Our consultant also established specific governance and a single point of entry for BI within the group. By combining this with the sharing of best practices among the subsidiaries, this setup enabled all subsidiaries, both novice and expert, to resolve their BI issues more quickly.
Subsequently, our consultant continued to monitor the various BI projects in the region to refine the recommendations. Technical assistance was also provided to our client for optimal implementation.
Result
The subsidiaries now have at their disposal a homogeneous specification that meets both technical and business needs in terms of BI. They also have a set of concrete recommendations aligned with the maturity of their subsidiary and the ecosystem of their information system. Sofrecom's consultant successfully consolidated best practices among the operator's countries to more effectively disseminate BI expertise.
