Fiber deployment monitoring and control in Burkina Faso

Sat 06 Oct 2018

Stake

The Ministry of Posts and Development of Digital Economy in Burkina Faso entrusted Sofrecom with the monitoring and control of the deployment of the Ouaga-Pô Optical Fiber backbone network, an important part of the West Africa Regional Communications Infrastructure Project (WARCIP).

This network is composed of several sections totaling 307 km of Fiber. It serves the international connection with Ghana as well as the Bagre development zone.

Methodology

The scope of this project, deployed by Huawei, included civil engineering, fiber cables laying, and the installation of the associated transmission equipment. Close to 2600 people from the villages crossed by the project contributed to the work, including 800 women, for a total of 39 000 work days.

Sofrecom’s experts and project managers entirely designed this network according to the highest international standards. Then, for about a year, they acted as the deployment monitoring and control entity, ensuring that these standards are met from start to finish. Our consultants also trained the Ministry’s personnel on controlling tasks and transferred skills to the local teams.

Result

Today Burkina Faso benefits from an excellent-quality very high speed broadband network that enables the country to propose internet connectivity at lower rates to the burkinabe companies and citizens.
