Audit and recommendation for Datacenters
Our client, an operator, wanted to have an audit of its 2 datacenters and recommendations in terms of management and evolution compared to the costs of building new datacenters.
The client entrusted our experts with the task of carrying out the audit according to the following 3 axes:
- Technical environment and energy efficiency: electrical architecture, air conditioning architecture, security elements
- Urbanization of computer rooms / airflow analysis
- ITIL processes (Change & Communication, Supervision & Incident, crisis, BCP and DRP, Preventive Maintenance, capacity forecasts, equipment addition / removal prescriptions)
Our team first collected all the information needed for the audit through:
- About ten interviews (technical environmental experts, maintenance teams, supervision team, Information System Director and his teams, Telecom Technical Director and his teams, Security Director, Real Estate Director, Financial Director)
- 2 workshops explaining best practices in data center management, maintenance and security
- A technical audit of the 2 sites over several days:
- Analysis of documentation (architectures, maintenance contracts,. . . )
- Electrical measurements over several days to assess PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and capacitance use
- Identification of SPOFs (Single Point of Failure), including electrical cable paths
- Analysis of the mass network
- Analysis of fire detection
- KPIs study, capacity study
- Visual analysis of the aeraulics and air conditioning systems of the computer rooms
- Analysis of the security of the site (access control,. . . ).
- Analysis of Datacenter management compared to ITIL processes
- Study of Business Continuity Plan
Following the audit, our experts issued recommendations in SWOT format (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) on the actions to be implemented in the short/medium/long term according to several technical scenarios and financially quantified.
Finally, our team facilitated several sharing sessions with the client on the state of the art of datacenters, compared to site audits, to argue and facilitate the decision on the choice of a scenario.
Our client now knows the strengths and weaknesses of its data centers.
Our recommendations explain the priority and substantive actions to be taken in the short, medium and long term.
Our client thus has several quantified orientation scenarios at its disposal, aligned with its real estate policy and strategy.
