Joyent, the American provider of cloud-based infrastructure and platform services, has just completed an $85m funding round with European group Weather Investment II and Telefónica Digital. Weather Investment II notably has a 20% stake in Vimpelcom, while Telefónica Digital is the capital risk branch of the Spanish carrier.
Matthew Key, Chairman & CEO of Telefónica Digital, says that this investment should enable Telefónica to provide more competitive offerings across a broader range of customer segments.
Joyent provides professional services for data centres and an operating system, SmartOS, dedicated to virtualisation and cloud computing. Having secured this funding, the American company plans to finance its global growth and the development of new solutions. More specifically, in 2012, Joyent is planning to roll out several public cloud solutions aimed at global corporations.
