AT&T Platform as a Service allows business professionals to build, develop and deploy cloud-based business apps. To do this, the platform includes, for example, Web tools and customizable templates for software development, a library of 50 pre-built apps which can be customized or used as-is and a high-performance, redundant and scalable infrastructure to run online applications and host databases.
According to AT&T, this solution, which only requires basic knowledge of development, is aimed at both independent software vendors and company IT departments. The monthly per-user fee for access to this cloud platform has not been disclosed.
With this new service, AT&T claims to be the first US telecommunications service provider to offer an enterprise-grade PaaS solution. The operator hopes to pursue a piece of the cloud computing market which, according to Forrester, is expected to be worth some $12.15bn (€9bn) by 2018.
