The popularity of data terminals such as smartphones and netbooks is driving demand for mobile data services. Video and multimedia content is starting to have considerable impact on networks, and the first signs of congestion are visible. While traffic continues to increase almost exponentially, associated revenues are not enjoying the same progression. Operators must upgrade their networks to serve new usages while maintaining quality of service and profitability.
