Syrian Telecom (STE) / Sofrecom contract
The visit by the French Minister of Economic Affairs, Industry and Employment, Ms Christine Lagarde, to Damas on December 16 and 17 last year marked a new step in the strengthening of bilateral economic relations between France and Syria.
As part of this visit, Ms Christine Lagarde and Mr Abdallah Dardari, Deputy Prime Minister of Syria, held a working meeting attended by several Syrian ministers including Dr Imad Sabouni, Minister of Telecommunications, and French company directors including Jean-François Fallacher, Chief Executive Officer of Sofrecom..
Jean-François Fallacher ensured the Syrian Minister of Telecommunications of Sofrecom’s strong commitment and will to assist the growth of the telecommunications sector in Syria and the modernisation of Syrian Telecom.
Following this working meeting, Jean-François Fallacher and Nazem Bahsas, Chief Executive Officer of Syrian Telecom, signed the official notification of the contract, which aims to assist the Syrian operator in the migration of its network to NGN (New Generation Network), in the presence of Ms Christine Lagarde, the Ambassador of France, Eric Chevallier, and Mr Abdallah Dardari. This signature reflects the strategic interest of this project and its showcasing by the highest political figures of both countries. The signature ceremony was broadcast during the news on Syrian national television.
